Kookaburra sits on an electric wire,
jumping up and down with his pants on fire.
Laugh, kookaburra, laugh, kookaburra.
Hot your pants must be.
Kookaburras are as weird as their name implies. Their heads seem way too large for their bodies, and their call is equal parts hilarious and terrifying, especially when they flock at 3AM and wake you up with their cackling.
I found these fungi on a hike in the Atherton Tableland rainforest. It had just rained, and water pooled in their cups, increasing the contrast of their growth rings. Hmm, growth rings…I wonder if you can date them…
Last but not least, I took a night hike up Castle Hill in Townsville, and on the way down I had to stop to take this long exposure of the Hill with the Southern Cross (at right) rising overhead. One of the coolest things about a journey to the Southern hemisphere is exploring a new half of the sky!
